Freed Associates is a long-time supporter of Operation Access (OA), a local non-profit organization working in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Since 1993, OA has helped to ensure healthcare equity for the community, by partnering with medical professionals and hospitals to donate outpatient surgical and specialty care for the uninsured and underserved.
Freed was a key sponsor this year at Operation Access’s Annual “Bridging the Healthcare Gap” Breakfast. The event honored the volunteer champions and partners who make it possible for uninsured community members to receive important medical services. Freed Associates’ staff has followed OA since its inception—the organization is a testament to what communities can accomplish when people band together to make a difference in their neighbors’ lives.
How OA Makes a Difference
For 22 years, OA has enabled medical providers to donate over 13,000 vital outpatient surgical and diagnostic services to Bay Area residents in need—the value of which exceeds $120 million. Operation Access’s surgical response programs serve over 1,000 community clinic patients each year across the Bay Area’s nine counties. And for every $1 Operation Access receives in donations, the organization provides $12 of medical care through its volunteer network of physicians, nurses, technicians, and interpreters.
This year’s “2015 Bridging the Healthcare Gap” event featured remarks from key Operation Access volunteers and supporters like Daniel Zingale and Dr. Jeffrey Fox.
Daniel Zingale is the Senior Vice President of Healthy California for The California Endowment, and was the nation’s first “HMO czar.” Daniel highlighted the many ways that Operation Access provides support to the underserved community in the greater Bay Area, applauding OA’s “model of caring” and commitment to “putting compassion into action.”
Jeffrey Fox, MD, MPH, is the Chief of Gastroenterology at Kaiser Permanente in San Rafael, and an Operation Access Volunteer. Dr. Fox spoke to OA’s ability to provide urgently needed care for individuals with limited options, and how this care prevents emergency room visits, suffering, and life-threatening illnesses from occurring.
Freed Associates is proud of its long association with Operation Access and celebrates OA’s many achievements. Dava Freed (CEO) served on OA’s Board of Directors for nine years, and former Freed Associate Reva Gould served for 3 years as a Board Member. Dava is currently the Chair of the Operation Access Institute and is a recipient of the 2013 Operation Access Legacy Award.
We invite both clients and friends of Freed to look into the good work being accomplished by Operation Access and thank all our clients that participate in the program.
